This nasty chest infection has extended to my right ear - painkillers will help until the anti-biotics start to work. After another hearty breakfast from Mama Maria Adina and I are off firstly to the supermarket to buy food parcels for 2 poor families.. Then it is on to Sofronea to collect all the shoe box gifts and other items we need for the day's visits. We are praising God for loaves and fishes provision - Spencer and Lynsey are a great help.
First visit is to a lovely lady who was widowed 2 years ago. Her husband died from cancer leaving her with 3 young children and a lot of medical debt. Giving thanks that her neighbours are supportive. She has suffered much but is strong in the Lord.
Next stop another young Christian mother with 2 teenage daughters. Her husband is in a psychiatric hospital long term./ Her mother and grandmother who lived with her and the girls both died last year and so she is struggling to survive on her small income. We also took along Christmas boxes for the girls plus mum which they loved. M is always happy despite her hardship. We met a lovely neighbour who helps look after the girls. She was so excited when we gave her a blanket.
Then it was on to a very poor family in the poverty stricken area of Kecheci. This is the family where the grandmother and one daughter visit the garbage dump daily to salvage food and plastics to sell to make a little money. In addition to Christmas boxes we took along a box of woollens and blankets.
Next stop was Rozalia from the Widows Mite Prooject who is a double amputee. Her little world is a bed settee in one room.. She has a son who works, a grandson who lives at the house and her best friend is her dog. Her needs are regular supplies of sanitary items which we are able to help with. I tailored her gift box to meet her needs as an amputee - she was so very grateful.
Last stop of the day was my old neighbour, Buna who is very elderly and unwell and now lives with his son and family. Bless him he has had mental health problems for many years but I really care about him and always visit with a Christmas Box.
Back at the apartment 2 young families connected to Mama Maria and Ioan's church pop round to receive their gift boxes.
By the end of the day my ear is still playing up. Mama Maria's lovely sister, Florica has years of experience as a nurse and so she was sent for to help out. I always value her advice when I am sick. In Romania there are also other methods of resolving medical problems and I was persuaded to allow one of the children's mothers to wrap up a newspaper in a cone with the pointed part being stuck into my ear. The top of the cone was then lit!!!!!! Well I laughed - the whole apartment filled with smoke but my ear did get better so who am I to argue about what measures to take to resolve ear-ache!!
