Widow's Mite Project

Today we clocked up 400 kilometres visiting widows in remote villages in the Judet of Timisoara near the Serbian Border. The temperature was -1C with a biting wind.    It was a 14 hour day full of highs and lows - joy at seeing their faces when they received their monthly food parcels, Christmas boxes as well as a knitted/crocheted blanket, a pair of slippers and a draft excluder and such sadness seeing the health problems and conditions in which some live.

It is very hard to describe the lives of some of these people.  Most live on minimal pensions but some have none.  Many live in single rooms (which is all they can afford to heat) in run down homes that they cannot afford to maintain.  Even though Romania has a Health Service and elderly people are meant to get their prescriptions free, this does not work in practice and often, these dear ladies have to use up much of their pensions to buy essential medication.

Reaching Romania helps to support this project which provides monthly  food parcels, wood for the winter and some help towards medication.  Much more financial help is needed.  I know the pictures below will touch your heart - please please contact me if you have a heart to help in any way.    Approximately 35 pounds per month is required to support each widow.  If several people give just 5 pounds per month it could make such a difference to the hard lives of these beautiful people.

We have more visits to make on this project.  There are currently 38 people on the programme and Pastor Jackie adds more in the faith that God will provide the funding.  I will write on a few cases separately.

We give thanks for the day and for the opportunity of being used to bring the light of Jesus into the lives of these humble folk - we love them all.
